I'm Walking for WAGEC!
Hi friends, Michelle here! As I prepare to join the Walk for WAGEC, I am reminded of the profound importance of this event and the cause it represents. The Women and Girls' Emergency Centre stands as a beacon of hope for those affected by domestic and family violence. I am walking towards a future where women and children are empowered to break free from cycles of abuse and reclaim their lives.
Domestic violence remains a pervasive issue, affecting individuals of all backgrounds and walks of life. By raising awareness and funds, we can provide vital support services to those in need. From emergency accommodation to counselling and legal assistance, WAGEC offers a lifeline to individuals seeking to escape abusive situations.
Every dollar and voice raised amplifies their mission and brings us one step closer to a society free from violence. So as I embark this journey, I invite you to join me. Whether you walk with us, donate to the cause or simply spread the word, your contribution matters. Thank you.

A Community's Generosity Shines Bright
Saturday 4th May As a first-time fundraiser organiser, I find myself at a loss of words and I'm SO overcome with gratitude for the incredible generosity of my community. I first set out with the intention to raise $1000, but time and time again, we've surpassed those targets that I've had to (quietly) adjust them upwards. It's truly a testament to the boundless compassion and dedication of those around me.Confronting Domestic Violence in Australia
Wednesday 17th AprLet’s talk about the harsh reality: domestic violence and violence against women remain a prevalent issue in Australia, with 1 in 6 women experiencing physical or sexual violence from a current/former partner or male perpetrator; these numbers represent the lived experiences of countless women who endure abuse behind closed doors.
Over the weekend, the tranquility of Bondi was shattered by a horrifying incident where women and children became the targets of senseless violence (and not to mention, this all happened in broad daylight in a public domain). It is clear that the perpetrator specifically targeted women, highlighting the gendered nature of domestic violence. This tragic event not only underscores the grim reality of violence against women but also serves as a reminder of the urgent need for action. Such heinous acts not only inflict physical harm but instil fear and perpetuate a cycle of trauma within communities.
In face of this grim reality, it is imperative we take a stand and actively work towards a safer future, helping women and children walk away from violence. Initiatives like Walk for WAGEC play a crucial role in raising awareness and providing support to those in need.
Let us honour the victims and reaffirm our commitment to building a society free from the fear of violence.
